Delaware Avenue Comfort Station
Kent Construction was contracted by the City of Rehoboth to construct a 1,000 + sq ft addition to the Delaware Avenue Comfort Station--adding two accessible toilet rooms, and seven changing rooms, as designed by architect Davis, Bowen, & Friedel. This facility is located on the boardwalk and provided much needed changing facilities to support the constantly increasing volume of visitors to the City of Rehoboth.
Some features of this project that made it unique:
- Added many accessible accommodations including two accessible family-style toilet rooms, two accessible changing rooms, an additional handicap parking space and accessible sidewalk route to the boardwalk, overhaul of existing ramp and railings, and an adult changing station.
- Facility was expanded within the existing footprint of the adjacent sidewalks and streets.
- The addition is supported by structural concrete foundations supported by 20 helical piles, coordinated around a maze of existing underground utilities.
- With the construction taking place in a very high traffic area, job site security measures were put in place in order to secure the site while allowing access to the existing facility.
